FAQ'S
We have provided a list of some our most frequently asked questions and ones we feel are important for you to understand. if there is anything else you need some help with, please use our contact form and one of Boom Arts Academy team will be in touch to answer your question.

1. How do I enrol for a class?
All enrolments are done online via the website on our booking page.
If you are signing up for a trial, you’ll also be sent an invitation after the trial session finishes. If you are still unsure about which class is best for you, please contact us or send a message through the contact form.

2) Do you offer Trial classes?
Yes we offer trials – this is important to Boom Arts Academy as we want our students to be happy with the dance classes they choose.
We therefore offer one trial per class type we offer - e.g. a student can do one trial for modern, one for ballet and one for street dance. This is obviously subject to there being available places in a class.

Trials are for two consequetive lessons (i.e. 2 weeks) and are charged at the usual rate for that class. For example, for a class costing £7.50 per lesson, the trial would be for two lessons and cost £15.

To book a trial, please enrol via our booking page before the first session.
To continue with a class after a trial, you must subsequently sign up and pay for the remainder of the term in advance of the next class starting.

3) What's the youngest age my child can join Boom Arts Academy?
We take Tots from the age of 3 years old.
However, they must be toilet trained and confident to be left in class after 10mins of the parent settling them in after a trial session.

4) What are the term dates?
All term dates for all our classes can be found on our website on our term dates page.
If you have any questions about these dates, please use our contact form to get in touch.

5) When do classes run?
Classes run on a 10-12 week term basis. We have three terms throughout the year Spring, Summer and Autumn:
-
Summer term 2021: April - July (12-week term)
-
Winter term 2021: September - December 2021 (10-week term)
-
Spring term 2022: January - March 2022 (10-week term)
We usually let the students settle into school life before attending the new term of Boom Arts Academy!
Our aim is for them to gain confidence at this age. If you have any further questions, please use our contact form to get in touch.
6) Do you run classes in school holidays?
We do not run termly classes in school holidays. However, we hold workshops as well as summer, Easter and winter schools.
Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to be the first to hear about any upcoming workshops we’re planning.
7) How much are classes?
All our classes range from £5.50-£9.50 per session depending on the class type and specialist.
Classes are charged on a term’s basis, in advance of the student attending their first lesson. If you a student joins mid-term, they will only be charged for the remaining classes in that term.
Our workshops are charged on a daily basis, details of which we release alongside the dates of any that we plan to run.

8) Do you still offer monthly subscriptions?
We initially introduced subscriptions in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, and to allow the cost of 3 terms of classes to be spread equally over 12 months.
However, after consultation with many of our parents, the feedback was that this was not needed (over 90% of parents still wanted to pay on a term-by-term basis and not a subscription).
We listened to what you were telling us, and so stopped new bookings from being on a subscription from the 4th May 2021. From this date, all bookings are on a term by term basis.

9) I’m subscribed to a monthly subscription plan, can I change to pay on a term-by-term basis?
If you no longer want to continue paying for classes on a subscription plan and would rather change to paying on a term-by-term basis, this will need to be agreed by our finance team.
As costs for 3 terms are spread out over a 12 month period, we would need to work out what you have already paid in subscriptions and how much you would therefore need to pay for the remainder of the term.
Please contact us to discuss if this is something you would like to do.

10) I’m already on a monthly subscription plan, how are the monthly subscriptions calculated?
We no longer accept new subscriptions to monthly plans. All new class bookings must be paid on a term-by-term basis.
If you are already on a subscription plan, the monthly amounts will vary based upon which classes are enrolled on. These are calculated based upon the cost for that class and three terms a year operating at boom arts academy:
-
Summer term: April - July (12-week term)
-
Winter term: September - December (10-week term)
-
Spring term: January - March (10-week term)
The cost of three full terms of the selected class are divided by 12 calendar months and a small flat administration fee (that class4kids charge) of £1.90 per class, per month is added to the payment. This gives the monthly subscription charge.
An example is as follows (class cost for illustrative purposes only):
-
Musical Theatre – cost £7.50 per lesson
-
3 terms a year is 32 lessons
-
£7.50 x 32 lessons = £240
-
£240 divided by 12 months = £20 (+£1.90 admin fee)
-
Total monthly cost = £21.90
Please note:
-
The admin fee is applied per class, per month, and is not per month per student. Therefore, if you’re enrolled on 2 different classes (e.g. Musical Theatre and Ballet, you would pay 2 admin fees of £1.90 per month = £3.80)
-
This is based on the first payment being taken in April - if this is missed due to sign up dates, then a covering payment may also be required alongside the first subscription payment.

11) Can I attend classes on a casual basis?
We keep class sizes limited to ensure an intimate and high-quality class experience for all our students. Therefore, we ask all students to enrol for the term and we do not offer casual classes.
This way you and your child will meet the same friendly faces at class each week and begin to develop beautiful friendships with those around them! Children thrive from routine and structure and we like to offer this each week in our dance classes.

12) Can I enrol for Boom Arts Academy classes in the middle of the term?
YES! You are welcome to join us anytime throughout the term if class is not on a waiting list.

If you do join us, you will need to pay for the remainder of the term before the next class starts. Please check our class timetable to make sure the class you wish to enrol in has availability.

13) When Joining Boom Arts Academy what happens in the next term if my child wants to carry on?
Classes are signed up on a term-by-term basis. When a term finishes the student is auto-enrolled onto the next term unless you have told us otherwise (we need 6 weeks’ notice to leave, as mentioned below).
You will then receive an email reminding you to pay for next term before it starts.

14) What happens if would like to leave Boom Arts Academy?
You must give 6 weeks notice as there are waiting lists for other children for classes. If the correct notice is not given, you will be invoiced for the rest of the term. Please check the Boom Arts Policies for more information.

15) If I leave half way through term do we get refunded for any remaining classes?
Unfortunately, you will not receive a refund due to our current policies explained in 14 above. Please check the Boom Arts Policies for more information.

16) What does my child need to wear to class?
We require all students to wear Boom Arts Academy uniform to classes, this encourages professionalism throughout the academy. This is not needed for participation in a class trial.
Our uniform is: a Boom Arts T-shirt or a boom arts hoodie; black leggings or joggers; suitable footwear relevant to the class, e.g. for ballet classes ballet shoes need to be worn - no boots or sandals. For exams, a Boom Arts snapback cap must be worn.
You can purchase our uniform and our other great merchandise, like our Boom Arts Academy gym bag by visiting our online shop, or via our staff at reception.

17) Can I stay and watch my child’s class?
We do not allow parents to watch full classes due to our safeguarding policies.
However, if your son/daughter is trialling on their first day we do allow you to settle them for the first 10 minutes of class if they need it.
Our main aim is for children to become confident in our classes without any distractions. We have a viewing day at the end of some of our terms for parents/guardians to come along to come into class to watch and see what wonderful progress they are making. This is also relevant when we do events, festivals and shows for parent/guardians to freely come and watch their child perform.
However, at the moment, due to Covid-19 and social distancing measures, this is not currently something we are able to offer.

18) Is there somewhere where we can wait whilst our child's class is taking place?
At all of our venues we operate a strict safeguarding policy for our students – this also includes us adhering to social distancing guidelines.
This means that parents are not allowed to wander around, or congregate in our venues for the safety of the students and our staff.
We advise you to drop students at the door with a member of the Boom Arts team and come back at pick up time.

19) Do you do shows at Boom Arts Academy?
Yes, we do a theatre show every two years. These sell out very quickly and are an amazing opportunity for the students to know what it feels like to be on stage with professional, lighting sound an audience and filming.
We also perform in Festivals and get invited to Theatre productions and events throughout the year.
20) What are street dance and Disco Freestyle Exams and their benefits?
The benefits of doing an exam, allows the student to excel in the style they are training in whilst aiding their confidence. They will also move up a level on each exam they take through a medal system.
The top exam they take can lead them in becoming an Associate teacher at a qualified level. The exams are taken via the ISTD a recognised examining board for dance and teaching. Visit the ISTD.org site for more information.

21) What are the benefits of Lamda Exams?
Studying towards and taking a LAMDA exam inspires and empowers children to find their voice and builds their confidence in public speaking.
LAMDA exams boost a child’s CV from a young age, their exams are supported by OFQUAL and are QCA accredited which attract UCAS points for college and university applications. As one of LAMDA’s biggest customers globally we cannot express the many benefits LAMDA exams have to offer;

22) Is there an additional cost for exams?
Yes there is an additional cost for exams not covered in Boom Arts Academy training fees. This cost goes directly to the examining board.

All exams can be taken optionally and are not compulsory.

23) Do you do Competitions at Boom Arts Academy?
Yes, we do competitions yearly with the ISTD. If the student has taken street or disco examinations with us, they can compete in these levels.
